Cultural Immersion at the Boruca Indigenous Reserve Guided Tour from Manuel Antonio

Approx. 3.5 hours

Central Pacific

TRIP DETAILS

In the South Pacific of Costa Rica, pay a visit to the indigenous Boruca tribe and immerse yourself in the culture. Their hand-painted masks, which depict myths, legends, and nature themes that shape their identity and daily lives, are one of their claims to fame. The tour begins with a visit to their workshop where each step in making a mask, from carving wood to painting, is demonstrated. Each of you will be given a mask to decorate under the direction of an expert painter. A textile workshop is part of this interactive and participatory experience. A guided tour of their community’s museum and town follows, where you’ll hear their stories about how they bravely defeated the Spanish during the Conquest while maintaining their identity. You will be entertained by the narration of one of the Boruca legends during a typical lunch prepared with ingredients sourced from the area. This is the ideal cultural and educational experience for a small group of friends or family, as well as a chance to shop for one-of-a-kind gifts made by hand.
